  •  Interesting Features
Once the heart that pumped commerce into town. Quite a tourist stop for torontonians on way up North. Understand that site was an Indian burial ground before site was developed (spoooky!). Interesting and unique arcitectural features.

    Now Allandale Waterfront GO Station

     History
    1853 - OS&HUR builds first station
1894 GTR builds refreshment building/third station. GTR builds refreshment building, which is partially used as waiting room, ticket office and, as space becomes shorter, additional administrative offices. A separate one-storey building provided.
    1980 Station closed.
1996 (Fall) CNR lifts rails between Allandale and Longford.

Present: Archaeologists have now finished work on the Aboriginal village. Crews now restoring interior and exterior to circa 1905 before the TV station moves in. I expect that work will be completed sometime in 2007.

     Future Plans
Allandale Community Development Corporation or 'ACDC' (with City interests) purchased the buildings and adjacent 7 acres from CN after train service discontinued. ACDC then sold to CHUM Ltd in 2000 for $1,050,000. CHUM intended to move its CKVR broadcast facillity here, but after expensive paleontology studies (for the burial ground) and some limited restorative work, the project folded.
In late 2005, CHUM Ltd. agreed to sell the property back to the City for the same amount CHUM originally paid.
    Crazy ! !
There currently is a private interest (Mr. Porter) who is likely to execute this project correctly.
