A row club now is there, utilizing some of the interior spaces. People are very nice if you go on the weekend, they'll take you for a tour of the place.

The Detroit Boat Club was founded in 1839 and is the oldest continuous rowing club in the world, the oldest boat club in the United States and the oldest social club in Michigan. The Club had five clubhouses at several locations in the Detroit area before it built the one on Belle Isle in 1902. The Club remained there until February 23, 1996, at which time they abandoned the building. The club still operates it's rowing ventures from the docks. However, the mostly abandoned Clubhouse building and former recreational amenities the once-prestigious private boating club, on the north side of the island just east of the MacArthur Bridge, has fallen into severe disrepair. The Detroit Boat Club (DBC) is NOT to be confused with the nearby Detroit Yacht Club (DYC), also located on the north side of the island facing the city mainland, just a mile or two away. The DYC is one of the oldest and largest yacht clubs in the world, founded in 1868. The current clubhouse on Belle Isle was completed in 1923 and provides social and recreational boating activities to its members and their guests. http://www.fobi.org/attractions.html

Hopefully someone with money will come in a redo the whole building, but as of now nothing. Friends of Detroit Rowing, Inc. have a lease agreement with the City of Detroit to be able to use the old DBC facility until 2045, but it's doubtful the structure can survive that long without some retrofitting. It's hoped that as Detroit continues a renaissance, there will be both interest and funding in somehow 'saving' the DBC facility before it's too late.
