 Overview
 Description
This farm property consists of a fairly large brick and stone house, with a comma-shaped backyard pool, a detached three-car garage, a large "tractor garage", and a huge barn with stone foundation and stables (lower level of barn). There is a small apple orchard which was probably once quite large and for-profit, since the trees have metal tags on them. The house was boarded up until just yesterday; today (Nov. 8, 04) some of the boards were removed.

  •  Interesting Features
The pool even has an outdoor shower (or the remnants of one, water doesn't actually flow from it). The interior has two fireplaces (one on main floor, one in master bedroom). This was one sweet house when it was first built!

     History
The house and barn are the older parts of the property, and the tractor garage and car garage are the newer parts. The barn is supposedly over a hundred years old, and built on top of an old Native American village (see below). Apparantly, the demolishers need to have a member of the historical society with them as they take up the foundation, in order to check for artifacts and such. The house is also supposedly over 90 years old, but it looks quite modern.

"The similarities between Oka and this new project in Scarborough are striking: a developer wants to build a residential subdivision on what has been identified as an Iroquois burial ground/archeological site. A few protesters are occupying the site now, and eerily, it is right across from a golf course.

The 400-hectare site owned by developer Rudy Bratty is valued at about $4 million and is slated for immediate development of 2000 houses schools and a shopping centre beginning May 30th.

The site has been the subject of several archeological analyses by Dana Poulton in 1986 and 1987 recently reported in 1988 which included information from 1973 and contained in a letter May 07, 2000 to the former property owner Chris Evans and has been found to have a small prehistoric village with 700 hundred lodges, and two longhouses. The Iroquois who lived there in the 1300s and 1400s buried their dead under the longhouses and moved on when wood and resources became scarce. This makes each site a snapshot of valuable archeological significance.

Limited digs on the site by a private archeologist unearthed a number of Huron artifacts, including ceramics and smoking pipes. An anthropologist at University of Toronto confirmed the artifacts are likely from an Aboriginal settlements dating from 1300 and 1400."

     Future Plans
Demolished. City of Toronto wants to make it a park of some sort. Although I think they really just want to turn it into houses.
