 Overview
 Description
This ex-plant is very, very large.

Stretching nearly two city blocks. There are parts of it that are high rise type structures. There are two buildings in one, both connected by some sort of bridge separating the two. The main shipping area/entrace point is massive, a lot of it unlit which made it hard to explore. The roof is amazing.

     History
The history of this building is patchy and unclear. From what I can deduce it was built around 1901, closed in the late 80's.
The reason why the history is so unclear is mainly because the building has been occupied by many different tennants over the years. Ranging from manufacturing refrigerators, to machine guns, this complex has seen just about everything.
It is very beautiful and interesting, if youre ever in Dayton, I would seriously check it out.

    'Tech Town' vision revealed

    By Jim Bebbington

    Dayton Daily News

DAYTON | The city is preparing to move from the industrial-era to the high-tech era.

Dayton this week is unveiling its proposed vision for a 30-acre industrial site east of downtown called "Tech Town." The campus would include 500,000 square feet of office space in environmentally friendly buildings, parking for 1,500 employees and tree-lined streets. The high-tech cluster would be built around a small park along the Mad River.

The development would be a stark change from the empty industrial complex there now, and it won't come cheap. The city has estimated it will cost $23.5 million just to clear the land, begin reclamation of the one building that will not be razed, and put in utilities and roads.

The city is marketing the site as a perfect locale for contractors doing work at Wright-Patterson Air Force Base. It will also try to entice companies that got their start at the Entrepreneur's Center, a business incubator on Monument Avenue, to move across the street and join the site.

"We have interest from companies who want to come there now," said Gwen Eberly, the city's development services manager.

Last fall, workers began taking asbestos out of the buildings on the western eight acres of the site. This spring, demolition crews will take down the buildings and clear the area between Webster and Taylor streets, Monument Avenue and the Mad River.

The proposal calls for the office space to be built among 16 buildings from two and seven stories tall. The tallest on the site now, a seven-story monolith used during the days when the area was the GM Harrison Radiator complex, will be renovated. The top two stories could be residential condominiums or apartments, Eberly said, with offices and shops in the lower floors.

The first new building will probably be built directly across Monument Avenue from the business incubator site, Eberly said. Plans call for a pair of two-story, 44,000-square-foot buildings.

The Plan Board approved the proposed development plan unanimously Tuesday. The City Commission is expected to vote on it next week.

The area is not without challenges: A busy CSX rail line cuts through the eastern end of the site, the riverfront will not be visible to ground-floor offices because of the river levee, and some parts of the area have pollution in the ground that make those areas too expensive to redevelop so they will be left or repaved and used for parking.

The business model for the project is also a risk. In the past decade, the land was first touted as "tool town," a campus for tooling and machining companies. That business sector softened in the region and proposals were dropped.

Funding for the clean-up has already come from a $3 million Clean Ohio Fund grant and $1.9 million in federal grants.

The proposed funding calls for up to $6 million from the Clean Ohio Fund, $3.4 million from the federal government and a $7.8 million Ohio Urban Redevelopment loan, among other funding sources.

Smoke from fire clouds city sky
    By Joanne Huist Smith

DAYTON | Thin lines of black smoke wafted across the city Monday morning from a fire at the old Frigidaire manufacturing plant at 300 Taylor St.

The blaze was reported to the Dayton Fire Department about 6:30 a.m. and was still out of control almost two hours later, according to a Dayton fire dispatcher.

Nine fire units were on the scene, including one medic as a precautionary measure, though no injuries had been reported.
