The building had five floors. Upper floors were stripped, but the ground level had some interesting artifacts. See pictures. As of 20060315, the building had been split, but construction was still in progress. The west half has the additional two floors as planned and a modern exterior. The east half has a somewhat more traditional brick finish and is under heavier construction. 8/2018 - The property now hold a parking garage with mixed misc. business.

A flooded tunnel under the building led to a different part of the building. The substation-scale electrical room with megawatt transformers is probably still there but might be more difficult to access. Upper floors were truly impressive with everything stripped out, but most areas have probably been reframed and subdivided.

Sources differ on dates and details, but the following should be fairly accurate. The oldest part of the building was built as an assembly plant for Ford Motor Co. in 1914. During WWII, the A.C. Spark Plug Division of General Motors expanded the building and manufactured bomb sights. The U.S. General Services Administration gave the building to UWM as surplus in 1971. UWM remodeled the building for use as a warehouse, parking structure, and research facility. Recently UWM made plans to redevelop the building into commercial space and high class student housing. The original redevelopment proposal was rejected in favor of the current plan to split the building in half.

Redevelopment plans include splitting the building in half and adding two floors to the west half. The east half is to be occupied by UWM's Peck School of the Arts, and the west half by students (not dorm-style student housing) and commercial space. The plans also include parking space.
