 Overview
 Description
Largish partly demolished building, 3 storeys with basement. Back parts were gone, very dangerous, as falling debris almost killed Fedge. Stay away from the edges! Inside, lots of boring empty offices. Larger building to the south holds a lot more promise, the old police HQ at 590 Jarvis.

  •  Interesting Features
Not that much, 3-storey church office building, completely empty of anything of any interest. Partly demolished, so the falling pieces make for some interesting times! Unfortunately it was a lot more boring once we got inside.

     History
The Anglican Church of Canada has maintained offices at the site on Jarvis Street since 1922, when the Missionary Society of the Church in Canada purchased an 1880s-vintage, three-story brick house at 604 Jarvis for $56,250.

In 1945, another 19th-century house, at 596 Jarvis, was purchased and the two were merged, renovated and expanded over the years to become the nondescript three-storey building at number 600 called “Church House.”

Plans for the redevelopment of the national church offices had been underway for years. Negotiations on the condo development project began in the 1980s and a move was contemplated in the early 1990s, but recession stalled the construction industry.

In January 2004, the Anglican Book Centre and all the departments of Church House packed up and moved approximately the length of a parking lot to four floors and 40,000 square feet in a new condominium building at 80 Hayden Street.

(On another interesting note, the larger building to the south, 590 Jarvis (still sealed tight, dammit!) apparently used to be the Metropolitan Toronto Police Headquarters. Been watching that one for almost 2 years now, at least we got the north building, but the south one is still virgin!)
