     History
The Interstate Highway system paved a safe and efficient pathway across America but it came at the expense of many small businesses even entire towns on the older U.S Routes like 66 and 80. They simply dried up and went under for lack of traffic.

Old Highway 80, The Bankhead Highway as it was officially named was two dangerous narrow lanes of asphalt stretching from coast to coast that would come to be known as The Broadway of America. If you needed to drive a long way east or west bound this was your road.

A new generation of automobile travelers created a growth market for convenient and inexpensive motor hotels that sprang up in small towns and at major crossroads. Most faded away when the Interstate bypassed them though. Holiday Inns and LaQunitas took their place but still a few, like the Sahara hung on until only recently.
