 Overview
 Description
Scores of vacant houses line the streets. Get your photos soon before they go.

UPDATE: Military Police may arrest and search you if they even suspect you are there to explore or enter any buildings. An explorer was arrested recently just for looking around. Bringing tools with you will certainly not help your case.

The upgrade in security appears to stem from some of the PMQ's being vandalized.

UPDATE AGAIN: No more MP's, just commissionaires. The site is not well fenced, but you will be asked to leave if you are seen.

     History
CFB Rockcliffe was the major RCAF base in the Ottawa area until the late 1980's when operations were consolidated at CFB Uplands in Ottawa's south end. The air base was closed in 1988 and is now the site of the Canada Aviation Museum. A good portion of the buildings and homes were subsequently demolished. The remainder of the property continued to house and service military personnel into the 1990's when it was transferred from DND to Canada Lands Company, a federal government arm charged with the disposal of surplus federal land. The City of Ottawa made a deal to rent the post WW2 military houses to low income families. An attempt to terminate this agreement was made a few years ago. Leases were extended to September 2006, and in October 2006 people left in droves. As of Oct. 6, 2006, less than 20% of the houses are occupied and they will be demolished.

CLC will de developing the site in phases into a residential area. This is the most valuable piece of real estate in the Ottawa area due to it's proximity to downtown.
