     History
JN Coupal estalished his flour mill alongside the South Nation River at High Falls in 1891. A year later, the village of Casselman was incorporated about 1km south near the Canada Atlantic Railway. In 1910 JN Coupal completed construction of a 460' dam across the river, and a hydro-electric generating station capable of producing 125Kw.

Starting in 1912 Coupal began selling electricity to the village. Demand quickly outgrew supply, and by 1921 the flour mill was closed and Coupal had the capacity to provide power for the expanding village for another 30 years.

In the 40's supply was once again becoming an issue, so in 1952 the first power transmission line providing power from the grid was introduced. At some point in the ensuing decades the original 1910 structure was abandoned and replaced. A new weir was built upstream with a canal bypassing the original dams, flume and powerhouse. A much smaller powerhouse was constructed very close to the ruins of the original.
