     History
The neighborhood was likely torn down due to an expansion of the neighboring water treatment facility. I discovered this around July 2006. I last visited the site in September of 2006 and it was still standing. When I visited in Jan 2007, everything was gone no sign of foundations. The Tim Rogers house was the only one left standing. A total of 9 houses were abandoned.

See relevant thread for more details.

Posted by Past Resident of Squires Beach
I used to live in Squires Beach which was the name of the community to the east of the nuclear power plant on Lake Ontario in Pickering. I lived there from 1953 to 1966. My father sold our house in 1966 and we moved to Florida for a few years. I understand that pretty well all of the little community was bought by the government because they found out that the nuclear plant was dangerous or bad for the resident's health or something like that. A waste treatment plant was built on some of the land. We stopped there in the summer of 2004 and I tried to figure out where our house would have been, but I couldn't. There were some newer houses (built after 1966) that I didn't recognize. We used to play at the Timothy Rogers house. It was either owned or rented by a family called Fehn. They lived in the house and rented out the barns and fields. I'm sure the abandoned swimming pool was the Clark house which was about 4 houses over from ours. I hope to come out again next summer and I want to spend some time and try to figure our where our house was and see if I can find any artifacts of my childhood.
     Media Coverage
The Toronto Star ran an article about how unsafe it was having open abandoned houses for local youth to party in.

A man was sent to seal the houses.
     Future Plans
Extension of the Duffin Creek water treatment facility.
