     History
Built in 1959, it opened in November with only a handful of stores ready to open. It's official grand opening was March 2, 1960, with 22 stores, including a G. C. Murphy's, a grocery store, a drug store, a hair salon, a Woolworth, a shoe store, and a lady's clothing outfit. Boasting "free parking for 1500 cars" and "shopping til 9pm" they opened with a radio remote broadcast and much fanfare.

20 years later, the shopping center was in a hurting. The landlord had not kept up maintenance, the parking lot was pitted with potholes, and 2 retailers were gone, with two more closing within the year. (the Meyer Goldberg went under, Murphy's pulled out due to landlord disputes, and both JoAnn Fabrics and Cunningham Drug left due to failing sales)

The 1980's saw a brief attempt at revitalization, with owner Del Mintz making false promises of other retailers coming in. When Murphy's left, it spelled the beginning of the end for Ridgeview. A chinese restaruant, a movie theater, a RadioShack, and a night club moved in; none of these survived. Evidence that the shopping center was taking a nose-dive came when flea market stores began moving in.

In 2005, the remaining hold-outs on the land were a magic shop, a skate park, a financial service, and a couple of flea market stores. Yellow Barrel of Magic was the last man standing in October of 2005 when the DiBennedettos announced they were vacating the plaza to have it razed. And there it sat, until recently, when they began tearing it down.

Also featured on the property is a Haunted House, a nite club, a McDonald's (now demolished), a restaurant, and a bank. If you want to see this, you'd better hurry. Contrary to previous theories, it's going, and going fast.

     Future Plans
Demolished...supposedly a new shopping center is going in. I'll believe it when I see it. IF it does happen, I'll have another white elephant to explore in 10 years. (knowing that area)
