In the years 1930 it took over the city-task for offering asylum to animals. In cooperation with the city of Antwerp in took care of lost, abandoned, and dangerous dogs and cats. In the '70 there was a need to have bigger housing to be able to take care of all these pets and they moved to this location.. modern at that time. There was place for 120 dogs to give an indication of its size. In the '90 the policy concerning care for dogs and cats was improved and this place no longer confirmed to these new norms. A new building was needed. After a long search to find suitable housing, the last dogs were moved from this place in 2004.
