     History
1877 – The company is founded as the Brantford Plow Works by James G. Cockshutt.

1882 – Name change and incorporation, Cockshutt Plow Company. Shortly thereafter Jame dies and his brother William Foster Cockshutt takes over as president.

1888 – Yet another brother, Frank Cockshutt takes over as president.

1910 – Still yet another brother, the youngest, Henry Cockshutt takes over as president.

1920’s - Known for quality designs, the company becomes the leader in the tillage tools sector

1929 – With no tractor design of their own, an arrangement is made to distribute Allis-Chalmers model 20-35 and United tractors.

1935 - Cockshutt takes on the Oliver tractor line.

WWII – Several Cockshutt factories in Brantford operating as Cockshutt Aircraft Division, Cockshutt Munitions Division, Brantford Coach and Body produce undercarriages for several types of British bombers, artillery trailers and artillery shells of variety of sizes, and manufactured mechanical transport bodies, ambulances, and specialty trailers respectively for the war effort. The company grows to over 6000 employees, most of whom which are women as the men are at war. Still during the war years Cockshutt was able to design its own tractor. This tractor was the Cockshutt 30 tractor. However, because the raw materials needed for industrial production were restricted only for use in the war effort, production was postponed.

1946 - The Model 30 30-horsepower 2-3 plow tractor finally begins production. 441 models are produced.

1947 - Production of the Model 30 hit its full stride and 6,263 are built. The Model 30 is officially the first modern production tractor built in Canada.

1948 - 10,665 tractors are made and marketed across Canada.

    1949 - Cockshutt adds a larger 45-horsepower, 3-4 plow Cockshutt 40.

    1951 - A smaller 25hp model, the Cockshutt 20 is introduced.

    1953 - The company adds a 60-horsepower (45 kW), 4-5 plow Cockshutt 50 to productions.

1956 - The Cockshutt Blackhawk 35 is introduced to promote the acquisition of the Ohio Cultivator Company.

1958 - Cockshutt introdcues a complete new line of tractors at the same time: the 540, 550, 560, and 570. This same year, company ownership was taken over by English Transcontinental, a British mercantile bank buying on behalf of an American investment group that became the forerunner of White. The company name was changed to Cockshutt Farm Equipment Limited.

1962 – Acquisition by the White Motor Company is completed. White opts to cease production in Brantford, however continues to produce equipment using the Cockshutt brand.

1970’s – By the mid 70’s the Cockshutt brand disappears and is never produced again.

1996 - Canada Post commemorated the 50th anniversary of the Model 30's launch with a postage stamp on June 8.
