The Galactic was an iron mine primarily, first worked around 1895. It was a decent producer, but the ground is very unstable, and cave ins were frequent, making is difficult to keep the mine in operation. However, it was in full operation until WWI, when the demand for manpower forced its closure. It was worked sporadically from 1919 until 1940, when WWII closed it forever. Because quartz carrying silver and gold is often found next to quartz containing veins of iron, a small cyanide leaching setup was included here as well.

Nothing. This is on BLM land, and it isn't a precious metal mine. Eventually, the shaft will totally collapse, the buildings will burn in a grass fire, and this place will be gone.
