Queen Elizabeth High was a comprehensive high school which had been operating on the corner of Bell Road and Robie Street since September 1942. It served, with distinction and pride, students from Halifax as well as the national and international community. Facilities included an excellent library, art rooms, music rooms, technology education shops, science laboratories, computer laboratories, family studies rooms, a reading resource room, a learning support centre, an ESL centre, a gymnasium, an auditorium and a full service cafeteria - all of which were accessible to the physically challenged. School motto was "Facere Faciendo Discimus" which means "We Learn to Do by Doing." In addition to being registered as a designated school for children of the United States Armed Forces and Diplomatic Personnel, QEH had a long tradition of attracting students from other parts of Canada and from overseas.

The school is sitting on top of prime real estate. The rear of the school is being demolished to make way for the Emergency Room expansion of the hospital located next door. The remainder of the former school sits idle for the time being.
