     History
The Roxton Mill & Chair Co first establishment was in Roxton Falls, QC in 1904. In 1907, the company bought the immovables owned by the Waterloo Wood Co. in Waterloo and merged its activities in this one spot. As you can tell from its name, the company specialized in the fabrication of chairs. They produced 50 000 of them annually and sold them everywhere throughout Canada.

In 1911, because of the evergrowing demand for that type of furniture, the company decided to expand its buildings. Between 1939 and 1945, like most of its counterparts, the company had to participate in the "war effort" by supplying the Army with most of its annual production.

After the war and the economical crisis was over, the workers felt they had a right to claim their own part of what they had worked so hard for. In the summer 1948, a major strike was declared among many furniture factories : Valleyfield, Victoriaville, Coaticook, St-Hyacinthe and Waterloo. It lasted several months until the workers finally went back to work in mid September.

After that, the factory started to make other wood furniture such as beds and kitchen tables. The factory closed in November 2005.

     Future Plans
Condos, what else! 50 houses and 60 condos for Montrealers and such. Should be finished around 2010. The project is called Quai des brises (Why does all the country condos projects' names have to be so lame??).
