     History
Originally built for the Missouri Oklahoma & Gulf (MO&G) Line in 1910, the bridge starts in Grayson County Texas crossing the Red River into Bryan County Oklahoma.

It was designed to withstand the flooding of the river which had destroyed several bridges in 1908. It was unique in the fact that it had a pedestrian side or wagon shelf (for horses, people or horse drawn vehicles) hugging the bridge's east side. Everyone to cross on this side had to pay a small toll.

After MO&G ceased to exist the bridge passed through the Kansas Oklahoma & Gulf and the Missouri Pacific Railroads care until in 1965 the bridge was closed to trains because of declining rail traffic.

It was then given to Grayson county who converted the rail portion into a single lane concrete automobile bridge. The wagon shelf has remained untouched.

Its in need of repairs in order to continue its service for another 98 years (hopefully).

2.15.2024 - In 2014 plans came together for a new highway bridge to the north. In 2017 a new bridge and bypass was built. The bridge was closed to foot traffic at that time, but the community was able to save the bridge and it was converted to a foot bridge, although the wagon shelf remains closed. A Google Maps car crossed the bridge in 2013 and again in 2014. Click "See a map of this location" and zoom in on the bridge for some cool Google Street views...
