     History
The Westwood was originally operated by 20th Century Theatres, then in the late '80s, Famous Players took over.

It was originally a single screen cinema opened in 1951. In the late 60s, a second screen was added in a new addition to the original building. In 1980, the original auditorium was divided in two, making the Westwood a triplex.

    The Westwood closed in 1998.

     Future Plans
There were plans to build a provincial courthouse on this site, but it was cut from the 2011 budget. It will likely be demolished soon, as there are plans to completely reconfigure the Six Points interchange and redevelop this whole area.

Jan 2013, via Ward 5 Councillor Peter Milczyn:
"At City Council Budget meeting this week, I tabled a Motion for the City to provide a $1 million contribution to the YMCA of Greater Toronto for a community recreation centre and daycare facility on the Westwood Theatre lands in Ward 5. This Motion included the following recommendations:
    1. That $1.0 million secured from Section 37 and 45 Agreements in Ward 5 be allocated as a contribution towards the construction of the future YMCA community recreation centre on the Westwood Theatre lands, conditional on the inclusion of a daycare facility on the site and construction of the recreation centre commencing no later 2015.
    2. That the Deputy City Manager and Chief Financial Officer report to Budget Committee to seek authority for the release of the funds once Build Toronto has confirmed that the community recreation centre project is ready to proceed.
The YMCA has expressed interest in the Westwood lands for a number of years. This week the YMCA has publicly identified the Westwood Theatre lands as a future site in their expansion plan that proposes to raise $250 million dollars to build 10 new community centres in the GTA.
This announcement by the YMCA, coupled with the contribution from the City and strong support of Council to allocate $1m to this facility in Ward 5, is very good news for Etobicoke, and a giant step forward to the vision for these vacant lands becoming a reality.
The Westwood Theatre is expected to be demolished early this year; an optimistic sign that the City in moving forward with their plan to build a City Centre in Etobicoke."
