     History
The predikheren/dominicanen arrived in Mechelen in 1651 and were allowed to build a small monastry with a chapel in 1652. The inaugeration was in 1689. From 1729 to 1736 building on the church was in progress. The French chased away the predikheren in 1796, in 1798 the monastry was sold to become an old man's home. From 1809 it was used as a military hospital. The church remained in use by the French as a parading ground till 1814, after that it was transformed to an arsenal. This was when the tower was broken down and a second floor was added. Since 1977, it is City of Mechelen property. In 1980 it was declared a monument. It is vacant for quite some time now
