The school is quite large with 2 gyms, a library and many classrooms. There is a secondary building at the back of the school but it seems inaccessible. The school was rebuilt on it's original 1929 foundation after the fire.

Updated History by sQualie: The Bowmanville Senior Public School opened it's doors in 1929. Because of a fire that destroyed a large section of the school, only a portion in the centre of the structure as well as the foundations remain of the original building. The fire occurred sometime in the early 70s and the school was rebuilt with 2 new additions in 1974. For the last 3 decades of it's existence, it was designated as middle school and housed grade 7 and 8 students. The school closed it's doors 2007 with it's closing ceremony held on Saturday June 16th of that year. It's unclear who currently owns the property but, after being denied it's heritage designation in 2009, the Kawartha Pine Ridge District School Board requested submissions from real estate brokers to sell the building and adjacent lot. From what I could deduce by walking around the school in it's current state, the location has been used for training by local emergency response teams. Various test rounds, blanks as well as proper targets where found all around the building. I was able to dig up a few pages from an old school news letter named the "Screech Owl" after the school logo, which was published between 1950-1960. They have been added as a gallery.
Original History by 43rdstreet: Originally built as the high school for bowmanville, it burnt down in the early 1970's. It was rebuilt on the original property with many of the same classrooms being used. From then on it was used as a public school until it's closure in 2008. It is currently used every once in a while by the Darlington nuclear enforcement team for training.

The future of this building is that they are going to most likely tear it down and put up retirement condos in the area where it is now. It's already being talked about in town hall.
