     History
This property was a historic airfield on the Saanich Peninsula. Joe Howroyd purchased the property in a gentleman's agreement with Claude Butler The agreement stated that the airfield would be immune to consumption by the adjacent gravel pit.

Joe's son John inherited the field as Claude's sons inherited the gravel pit. Claude's son's didn't hold up the bargain. Towards the end of the 20th century the runway had been eaten away so much that landing was hard and there was no room for a second pass. Finally in 2007 a plane tried to pull out after botching a landing. It hit the trees and was wrecked in the road. The pilot walked away.

After that the landing strip was closed and now a bad development is eating away at what is left. One half of a hangar, an outhouse and the remains of that crashed plane are all that remains.
