Built in the late 1930's to provide electricity and steam to facilities in the Mid-America industrial park, which was known as the Oklahoma Ordinance Works. The facility also provided steam and heat to the POW camp located nearby. On Oct. 9, 1998, the facility which was formerly known as Cogeneration Corporation of America (Cogen America) was purchased by the Calpine Corporation for a sum of $23,947,140. After nearly 7 years under new management, the Calpine Corporation declared bankruptcy with a debt of $22,535,577,121 on Dec. 21, 2005 due to a spike in the price of natural gas resulting in the closure of many facilities.
