  •  Interesting Features
In addition to the easily accessible public areas of the museum, there are non-public areas you can wander into including abandoned buildings, bunkers and tunnels.

Because the museum beyond the Commissioner's House has either never been restored or has fallen into disrepair, measures to preclude access to non-public areas have also fallen into disrepair.

     History
The Keep was the fortress of the Dockyard defenses. It is a six-acre fort, with seven irregular bastions, lettered ‘A’ to ‘G’, designed to protect the Dockyard from enemy attack.

The Keep was built in various stages starting with initial construction in 1783 and ending in the late 1800's. Further modifications were made to accommodate newer weapons technologies for both WWI and WWII. The Royal Navy ceased using the facility in 1953, but the official closure date is 1995 when the maximum-security prison on site was closed.

     Future Plans
To be restored into the National Museum of Bermuda.

At present, restoration is limited to only a small part of the complex.
