Two story church heavily damaged by fire. The large sanctuary took up most of the building. Pews, the altar, Bibles, and hymnals were all left over. There was also a balcony with a pipe organ that had been destroyed by scrappers. There were a couple small rooms behind the sanctuary. A stairwell led up from a small lobby to access the balcony and bell tower. The front doors were locked and somebody had attempted to thwart access from the side door by stacking large tree branches in the doorway.

Originally a mission church part of Trinity Lutheran, Bethania Evangelical Lutheran Society split off on its own in 1887. Its 800-seat church at the corner of Meldrum and Pulford was completed in November 1889. Reverend Robert Smukal was the first pastor, leading for over 50 years. Services were held in German until 1918 and the name was changed to Bethany Lutheran Church. As the congregation grew, the need for a larger church arose and Bethany Lutheran moved to a new church on Outer Drive in 1942. Founded by Bishop Theodora Hooks, Everybody's Universal Tabernacle of Holiness began serving Paradise Valley in 1940. She moved her church to the old Bethany Lutheran building sometime around 1946. After her passing in 1981, the church was led by Gene Carr until its closure. Bethany Lutheran closed in 2009. Although the church was closed it was well secured until June 2, 2016. An ember from a nearby house fire landed on the roof of the church, starting a fire in the attic. Firefighters were unable to access the attic space and fought a defensive fire focused on protecting the occupied neighboring house that sits very close to the church. The destroyed roof collapsed and the fire was brought under control. The fire provided easy entry for scrappers who destroyed most of the surviving portions of the church. It was demolished in 2017.
