Massive facility with many buildings and plenty of cool things to check out. Two large hyperboloid cooling towers stand out above the trees, while the plant itself is a maze of ladders and catwalks that will take hours to fully explore.

  •  Interesting Features
Finding a point of entry can be difficult, but doable. If you happen to take the same route I did, then long pants are an absolute must. Beware of the risks. Security cameras are present and watched by an off-site monitoring facility. First Energy employees are known to visit this site on occasion for storage and to re-purpose parts for their active plants, so just keep your eyes out.

     History
Abandoned fairly recently, relatively speaking. Operations began at this plant in 1969 and ceased in 2013. First Energy did not want to invest $245 million to purchase the equipment required to adhere to EPA regulations, citing low electricity prices. The site is still owned by First Energy Corp.

     Future Plans
As of March 6, 2023 three emissions stacks have been demolished. The cooling towers fell on June 8th, and work continues on the boilers and turbine hall.
