Those two bars switched the mill off or on. One once said "STOP", I don't know what the other one said. By pulling the stop handle, you turned the servorotor (the little 6-winged rotor) in line with the main axle. The servo rotor rotated the head, and when the servo rotor would not catch any wind anymore, it had turned itsself out of the wind. As the main axle was in the same line, it was out of the wind too. The other handle would turn the servo rotor 90 degrees, so the servo would be out of the wind when the main wings would be in full wind.
