Description
Royal Insurance Building, ca 1870. Alexander Henderson photo.

I believe this building was once the Customs House for the port. The Pointe-a-Calliere Museum occupies the site today.

ah ok. maybe I'm wrong here but is'nt this building still standing? It has been abandonned for years but restored a few years ago. Is'nt it just 2 blocks past Pointe-à-Callière???

Maybe you're thinking of the old port headquartes building? It was restored by Daniel Langlois a couple years back and is now the uber-exclusive Club 357c (or some such thing). My dad worked in that building before the port HQ moved to Cite du Havre in the 60s.

yeah maze is wiriting about the building that is 357c, there was an interesting article about it on media in montreal. leslie chesterman of the GAZOO husband is the chef. the building was owned by chinease concerns into the 90s, they allowed it to fall into disrepair. daniel lanois wantedt o open a private club, sort of along the lines of the Montefiore and St James. To join is by invitation only
