Description
Interior of an unidentified cafeteria or restaurant in Art Deco style, ca 1920s. Photographer unknown.

Can anybody identify this puppy? The layout reminds me a bit of the old Rymark Tavern on Peel.

too big to be the simpsons dining room that was demoed in 80s for the modern simpsons store, yes simpsons was virtually gutted in the 80s, hence the fact even closed and abandonned it was more modern than eatons and the bay

Could have been the restaurant that was right next door to the Corona. Cause some details would fit perfectly with the Corona...

is it the 9th floor of the eatons center?
Posted by nostra-YOUPPI! 9/11/2005 4:58 PM | remove
the eatons center only goes at its highest 5 floors, you are talking about the old eaton store (they were always separate except in name one owned by caddilac fairview and one owned by the T. Eaton Co.) the 9th floor restaurant looked nothing like this

I would say it has to be more towards Old Montreal - Downtown as we know it wasnt that developed then.

well, it's definitely ground level as there's a window at the very end... I go with right next to Corona.

That place looks like a brothel compared to the way eaton's 9th floor looked.

I no longer think this, but Ben's popped into my mind when I first saw the pic.

it's definately not the new system BBQ

Saint James Street keeps popping into my head and I CAN'T STAND IT:P. I have taken the desperate measure of emailing this to Coolopolis in the hope he may ask his readers for help.

this looks like the 5th floor of the bay restaurant called La Soupiere!

back 10 years ago that place was really cheap so I used to eat there all the time!
$3.50 for a chicken salad sandwich and a soup and a tea or coffee. the sandwiches were great and so was the soup.

la soupiere is in the part of the bay built in 67 though, i think this is a lot older lol
Posted by mewthree 10/31/2007 12:43 PM | remove
That is not what bothers me...

it's more because I dont remember any second floor in La soupiere.

I am just figuring that maybe they removed the second floor.

OR, maybe it was another La soupiere restaurant somewhere else! Unless U shaped counters were a norm back then.

the toy department at the bay was a large restaurant years ago, up on a mezzanine, when i worked there we found ductwork from range hoods

U shaped counters were not unusual at all once upon a time.

Coolopolis has no idea either.

i remember greenbergs stores restaurants were cool because the booths were set up so the waitresses never had to mingle with walking customers, they had thier own little walkways that led to the tables
Posted by mewthree 11/2/2007 4:01 AM | remove
Well the greenberg that I ate at had a setup where it was a square counter with stools all around it (sort of like one of those places outside zellers at atwater. The stools has mustard colour leather tops.
