great info on flax seed oil. this is linseed oil.

My mother used linseed oil as a rubbed finish on bare wood. It was rather unpleasant smelling as I recall. Flax/linseed is also used to make linoleum (I never connected linseed oil and linoleum ... cheers to the Flax Council of Canada website)

Its a miracle substance... like asbestos... you can do so much with it.
