You just found this thing?!? Where is this place? That looks like a snapping turtle!

It IS a snapping turtle... you don't want to pick these up and play with them... They can sever fingers from your hand with ease...

This guy, only 14" along the shell, was trying to pick a fight with passing cars. We managed to convince him to return to the river, but that took alot of work and my Doc Marten's still have bite marks on them!

I was pulled off to the side of an old road along Big Bay and when I got back to my truck one of those monsters had bitten my tire and popped it and was still sitting there. I grabbed a stick and gave it a swat and it returned to the water.

Your truck must have looked at it funny...
Snapping turtles are impressive animals, but they are really stupid! They don't think anything can hurt them, so unfortunately often end up as road kill.

Yea that are quite ornery. Over the course of 2 years at my cottage, the snapper under the dock, ate a friends cell phone, a multitool, a spoon, a watch and the keys for my gfs car.

I caught one years ago. What a nasty little bastard (only 6 inches) and it took me about 20 minutes to get the hook out of its mouth! It would hiss at me while I was getting the hook free and no, I was after bass not turtle. It was still hissing at me when I let it go.

Anyone who thinks a snapper is "cute" has obviously never met one while swimming or fishing. I once had one take a bass from me, right off the line. I had the fish, but by the time I reeled it in a snapper had taken everything from the gills back, 1 bite.
