note: for those who are stupid enough to support nuclear power, here's a reason not to.

good day

Oh, BS. Don't support haphazard, poorly-run and regulated uranium mines. This stuff can be done responsibly and safely, but clearly in this case it was not.

Incredible find.

Sure. Done responsibly with a ton of cash that can be far better spent on other energy sources. And even with the best safety precautions, there is absolutely no leniency in an accident. Have an accident like Chernobyl, and the area is uninhabitable for many years to come. Just imagine the results if there was a huge accident in Pickering or Darlington.

I know a few Russian websites that sell combat rated NBC gear and gas masks, not cheap stuff, good quality. They also sell flack jackets. This would all be really useful when the end of the world rolls around.

some people r so retarded, how could they let this happen??
Posted by Blackbird 5/30/2007 10:12 PM | remove
Well at least it's not as bad as the Chernobyl area, but that would be a great UE if I could get clearance and a flight over to the Ukraine.

I still think nuclear power is better than using fossil fuels such as oil or coal.

It is, but what should we do with the waste?

with all the collective brainpower on this damn ball and no one has come up with a way to dispose, reclaim or otherwise reuse the shit for something else? I find that hard to swallow... somewhere someone must've come up with something workable (wow, how vague is that?)

A few of my old teachers told us about Uranium City... truly a ghost town. It would be amazing to go up there and wander around for a few weeks.
Posted by Cor726 12/6/2007 2:41 PM | remove
Well there are around 125 people living there so I wouldn't consider it a true ghost town. However considering there were close to 5,000 people there at one time sure would make it an eerie place to visit.

Uh, the background level of radioactivity here is less than down town Saskatoon guys... So get your facts straight before knotting your panties in a bunch.

This town is exactly why I'm glad uranium mining is illegal in the Maritime provinces.

Have you encountered any three eyed fish?
Posted by wacko 2/4/2012 7:54 PM | remove
They're aren't any three-eyed fish, but I wouldn't be surprised if the radiation has produced two-headed fish.
