I worked here during the summer of 1980 as a college student. It's sad to see the place this way. The footbridge connected the business office on US 119 to the refinery. Houses on the US 119 side of the river were company owned and occupied by the plant superintendent and other management staff. I heard that there was a fire and Pennzoil did not re-open. When I worked there it was obvious that the company was no longer investing in this facility and its days were numbered.

That would explain the houses we found near by that were also abandoned.

One of those houses is also in the DB if you look for it. I had a feeling it was for management staff. Thank you for adding your perspective!
