Description
The massive trans-shipment terminal at Prescott, just upriver from the Galop Canal. Prior to the opening of the Seaway in 1959, all cargo heading down the St. Lawrence from the Great Lakes was unloaded here and transferred to smaller vessels capable of navigating the historic canals.

The terminal hasn't been entirely abandoned but... let's just say that it's seen better days. I hope to add this one to the LDB next time I ride through here.

There are people in the small block building in the foreground of the picture most nights. Also cameras are mounted on the corner of the building. Be careful if you explore this place, but it is do-able and still active.

Thanks, Mutt. I've yet to see any ships in port here, but their web site shows 20-30 coming through each season. So it can't be *that* quiet.

For anyone planning a visit, the Port of Prescott has a handy PDF map on their website:

The scale of this picture is awesome once you realize those are 2-story full size buildings in the foreground.

is that a fresh pile of coal or gravel to the right side of the picture?
Posted by Emperor Wang 6/28/2017 4:26 PM | remove
Nope, it's a pile of something covered by tarps. Possibly road salt.
