  Oil and Graphite. It was a mixture of stuff that would be swabbed on the blank-side moulds every 15-30 minutes depending on weight of the bottle. It was simply a lubricant. The whole place got like that even during the working days back then...especially the higher areas as the heat takes the smoke upwards.
