Tell me about it. My corkscrews are like 1/4 in when I cut T6 round bar. Sometimes a bit bigger.

You'll get these from drilling large holes on a lathe. Not so much from OD turning.

Yep, with the piece spinning it usually hits parts of the lathe and breaks off.
