It's sad to think that a building where so many children spent their formative early years is now in such a state. Let's face it, no one really liked going to school, but elementary school was where we started on the path to becoming the person we currently are and, I'd be willing to bet, that the majority of many people's earliest childhood memories are associated, in some way, around the school they started their educational careers in. I have no great love for the school I attended back then, but I think it would pain me in some way to see it in a state like this.

I agree. I work for a school district, and have spent some time in two of our schools that were closed due to declining enrollment. They were so quiet, they seemed desolate. Fortunately one of the buildings is now the Administration Center, and they have plans for the other building, eventually. But yeah, dead schools are kind of sobering.
