Definately weird names in New England. I've always liked 'Woonsocket' Rhode Island.

on US Route 4 between Whitehall NY and Rutland VT, there is a sign on the side of the road that states "Entering Ira"... in the 17 years I've been driving, that sign still makes me chuckle!!!!

Idi Amin, former president of Uganda, wanted to rename the country after himself while he was in power in the mid 1970's. His choice of name was to be Idi. Shortly there after it was pointed out to him that his citizens would be called by the rest of the world "Idi-ots" So to this day, Uganda is Uganda

In South Carolina there's Lancaster...pronounced Lenn-kus-turr. I've also noticed people here in the south tend to pronounce "ville" (as in the city of Reidsville) as voll.
