You know, if the place was still closed, but the power was on and someone walked through to check on the place everyday, the plaster wouldn't fall apart! Odd how the lack of people seems to lead to buildings falling apart.

That's a good point. Mostly is just the controlled environment by the air maintenance equipment. When that stops and the windows are open (or busted, etc) humidity, temperature, pressure, and everything is out of control. This causes the whole building to expand and contract year after year with humidity getting inside of micro-cracks in paint and when the mold and rot starts, this is what you get....
