They X-ray the cars so they can check the integrity of the car, required by both Transport Canada and the US DOT.

naw skelly. it is incase they break their legs while hoping around on the roofs of the trains. like they do in the indiana jones movie. makes sense to me.

As I said a couple of pics back, the technical name is 'non-destructive testing'. Say you repair these chemical cars, some of which carry some nasty shit, you need a way to check the integrity of the steel and your welds, that's how you do it. We have special companies come in and NDT our digester, diffuser, seal tanks and other pressurized vessels, including the power and recovery boilers in the powerhouse.
