Place Bonaventure going up. Was formerly supposed to be 80 stories and Canada's tallest. Scaled down due to competitors pressure and city legislations. 1960s

great pic of the laurentian hotel in the background. PLace bonaventure was originally intended to be a merchandise mart, like that in chicago. It did serve this role for a while but its vocation slowly changed. It also had quite the bustleing shopping mall until the 90s. The construction of 1000 de la gauchetiere put an end to place bonaventures shopping mall days with the 2 large escalators from the bonaventure metro station. Originally any foot traffic from the metro was forced through place bonaventure, up a couple of escalators and back underground
