gulf was taken over by petro canada in 1985. gulf canada stayed around a bit longer as an exploration company. In quebec petro canada was forced by the competition bureau to divest thier downstream assets to ultramar

Yeah, I remember watching the Gulf tank farm in Ottawa coming down in the summer of '85. In '87 I explored the abandoned office/maintenance building before it was replaced by Superior Propane and later Costco.

Yep, I worked there shortly after the takeover in 1991. There used to be a Loblaws next to it that partially became a Fabricland. The vacant portion of the Loblaws was secretly part of the lease to Zellers, but no one from head office knew about it. We used to store stuff in it, and whenever I got the keys, I would explore the stockroom wich was all dark and spooky. There were the old changerooms and washrooms for Loblaws back there that hadn't been used in years as well as old fixtures and signs from the 70's and 80's. I was gone by '93, and Value Village took over the entire Loblaws site. Zellers closed after merging with KMart Canada and was transformed into a gov't office with a new tower built in the old parking lot.
