business end of the kiln. that's called a 'lance'. In the kiln where I work, we have #6 fuel oil and steam for atomization... during problems, we kick over to propane to keep the pilot lit. the wheel just under the lance controls where the flame is directed. Just off to the left or right should be your primary air fans that create the draft. When the kiln where I work is running, temperatures at the front end are around 2200-2500F and the back end around 425-450F.
