Gabor taught photography at Concordia for many years. He had two basic nicknames, Gaybar and Gaboring. He is perhaps the most important single photodocumentarian of Quebec from the 50's!

Thanks, Charlie. I did not know that. There's a ton of his stuff in the Pistard archive. Alas, it looks like taking pictures of white guys doing meetings was his bread and butter, but there are plenty of street scenes in there too (if you're willing to sift through all the chaff).

Yea, had to pay the bills. He was a remarkable printer in B&W and colour. I ve seen a lot of his stuff and a few things straight out of the print tray. Funny, but when we look at all our locations today, Gabor, may be the one who has most of them on his list. He did a triptych of Imperial Tobacco from good old Geo Reed territory that was well known. And I forgot to mention the nicknames were only amongst Concordia photography students. He is from Hungary, originally. Was friends with Andre Kertesz in their younger days.
