  I can't make out the street sign, even on the original. It looks like the train underpass at left, so we're probably looking east.

  I'm guessing that this is the SE corner of Notre-Dame and St-Phillipe. But if I'm right, you won't find much more than the doorstep there.

  in the old days, until the mid 80s, there were fire alarm boxen all over the city, you used them to summon the pompiers

  Probably the popularity of the telephone did them in. Also, the alarm boxes only rang your local fire station. Centralized dispatch is just better.

  exactly, you can still see the red and white stripes on some telephone poles in lasalle
