might seem like I am stretching things but this is actually the first time I have ever seen piggyback containers on that backtrack - just about everything else. but not these, must have been a pretty good problem that layed it over, or they were record bursting full, full, full, at Tashereau.

This one wasn't laid up, Charlie, it was passing through. And stupidly enough, I was walking along this very track not an hour earlier with the iPod on 10 and not a care in the world. Duh!

I had a few close calls when I was actually working on the railroad so I became a member of the sharp focus on tracks club. Could be there was a crew doing some work on one of the mains.

me and a group of friends learned our lesson early... we almost got flattened by a southbound CP Rail freighter just north of Port Henry... In the cliffs that run along the lake, it hides the sound, especially if the wind is right and when we realized where it was... it was right on top of us!
Scared the everlovin shit out of us.

it s uncanny! One time we were a crew of 5 putting in a temporary 4 foot piece of rail at a joint. What slowed us down ( and you don't stop trains for this kind of a job) was that we had to drill new holes for the bolts. So we put the steel in place and I sent 3 guys back to our motor car and me and one other guy drilled the holes (using a special machine) and we had to basically line up the angle bar and screw the bolts in. Now a train is due any minute and this is in BC and we are just around a curve with high cliffs around us. I got the damn machine off just as we saw it blasting towards us and we got out of the way. Now we had to shit a brick or two for the next minute or two as there was nowhere to go except into the train or down a cliff into a river. We didn't have one bolt in so we just had to swallow it and hope like hell that train didn't derail. If we could have heard that train we would have been able to put a couple of bolts in and let it pass. This whole thing happened because the railroad is always waaay up yer ass about getting things done and I have to admit there was also some extra machismo involved in our young heads about doing these things. CPR had preposterous rules about safety by the book yet on the other hand you were a total pussy if you didn't break those rules and were constantly waiting for trains.

My new job's in Lachine and it's awesome for train watching. Every morning there are one or two freights farting about the station. I actually had to climb over one to get to work the other day.

The Bridgeline runs from Washington DC to Montreal... There was/is a siding in Ticonderoga where two trains meet. We jumped up on it, Willard couldn't get off and rode it all the way to the siding in Plattsburgh!

Could that be a statement regarding the total lack of public transport, Wang? I may know where you work, lol.

Actually, no. I could bitch and moan about the joke of a schedule they're running on the CP line, but it so happens that the train works for my needs. Un-fucking-believable, really.
