The drawbridge seems so much simpler in construction, but i suppose that it requires techniques that were not available for such a span at the time the strausz bridge was constructed. Also note that this strausz bridge is special as the counterweight is fixed with the bridge - in others I've seen it is hinged and stays parallel to the ground, even almost resting on the ground when fully opened.
