  I think the railroad bridge and the hill in the foreground are the only things that have survived to the present.

  I think your right. What I found interesting about this picture is the level of the Salt River. It must have been flooding when this picture was taken.

  Actually the flat roof brick/adobe structure right behind the mill building and partially obscured by it is Haydens "La Casa Vieja" which is still standing and now Monti's Steakhouse in Tempe. A good amount of the original structure is still there and highlighted by the current owners. It's on the National Register of Historic Places and has the distinction of being the oldest continuously occupied structure in the Phoenix metropolitan area since it was built in 1871. Plus, the food is good too!
