Now that is creepy. For those who don't know, ECT=ElectroConvulsionTherapy
Still used in today's psychiatry, altough the indications have been narrowed to a small circle of psychical disorders(mostly therapy resistant depressions)

"Yeah, not happy yet are ya? *ZAP* How about now, ya happy now?! *ZAP* Ya happy now?! *ZAP* GET HAPPY *ZAP* *ZAP* HAPPY HAPPY *ZAP* *ZAP* *ZAP*"
Seems paradoxical. I'm no doctor though, I just play one on TV. :)

My grandmother is schizophrenic. When I was a child, she spent a lot of time in and out of psychiatric wards, and many times she had ECT. I naively thought that by "shocking" (As my mother called it.) grandma, they were just giving her little shocks...like a joy buzzer. When I was a senior in high school, we had to watch One Flew Over the Cuckoo's Nest in Psych class. I freaked out when I found out what ECT actually entailed, and bawled in the middle of class.
It still creeps me out to this day.

Stormchaser, It's nothing like "One Flew Over The Cuckoos Nest". Much more civilized.
