When I was a child, she spent a lot of time in and out of psychiatric wards, and many times she had ECT. I naively thought that by "shocking" (As my mother called it.) grandma, they were just giving her little shocks...like a joy buzzer. When I was a senior in high school, we had to watch One Flew Over the Cuckoo's Nest in Psych class. I freaked out when I found out what ECT actually entailed, and bawled in the middle of class.
