What is up with those lights? They seem to have them in the parking lot too.

Thats the obvious purpose... but why would they put that in the parking lot?

Honeywell Dual Obstruction Lights. Mandatory lighting on structures as dictated by Navigation Canada and the regulatory guidelines of TP-382. The chain is connected (supposed to be) from the removable glass housing to the body of the unit. Thats so if this was on a tower and you were changing bulbs, you would not drop the glass globe.

It's not used for warning aircraft.. no planes take off from the runway it's alligned with (33R, 15L).. so.. I think they're used for two things: 1) Landmarking for the ATC control tower.. it's not needed, but in the rare event they lose their sense of direction, they landmark areas. 2) I know they're alligned with 33R's (runway) ILS guidance system.. so, they're setup so that when a pilot is approaching 33R, he has a straight line of lights, used for approach from miles away.. they're only on certain buildings in the area.. so they're used for their respected runways.
