its called a runaway de railer, used to derail runaway cars, they protect main lines from improperly chocked cars on siding

right on -- sometimes also used simply to "cut off" part of a backtrack so it can be used from each end as if seperate lines altogether

lol... we unload via railcar sodium chlorate, sulfuric acid and some other caustic. Hydrogen peroxide, methanol and liquid oxygen all come by truck.
